At exactly 6 PM, Mayor Ernest D. Davis, Congressman Elliot Engel and the Three Kings lit the tree to much cheer from the hundreds that were in attendance.
Hundreds of kids who waited on line for hours jumped with joy when Santa Arrived. Shortly, Santa started provided the hundreds of kids who waited so long with toys – with the help of volunteers from the city’s Youth Bureau acting as elves.
The All City Band, the Mayor’s Interfaith Choir, Transcend Dance Group, Young at Arts and students of the music school at the Doles Center provided entertainment. Candy canes, courtesy of the Mount Vernon Chamber of Commerce and hot chocolate was also served.
It was a festive occasion, and those who attended the festivities did so in the spirit of a community celebration, in an effort to enjoy the spirit of the Holiday Season.
Linda Rose, proprietor of Fleetwood Realty, located at 19 West Grand Street in Fleetwood, graciously donated the funds for the purchase of the hundreds of toys that were distributed by Santa and his helpers.
